A lot of folks I’ve run into through the years have an interesting take on work. It’s as if they feel the world owes them something and they take the attitude that manual labor is somehow below them, opting rather than doing manual labor to wait for a handout. Now, I am certainly not speaking of those who cannot work, but instead of those who freely choose not to work. The Scriptures tell us to take care of widows and orphans (and the like), but it even goes so far as to not include widows who can still work. My point is to remind Christians that God gave Adam a job before He gave him a wife! And even when Adam was presented with a bride, God had work for both of them to do. The Apostle Paul made tents on the side to support his eating habit, and even our Lord Jesus labored as a carpenter for nearly 30 years. If you’re given to a little laziness, then make an immediate effort to get up and get to work. Sloth (laziness) is commonly referred to as a sin in the Scriptures.
“For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: ‘If a man will not work, he shall not eat.'” 2 Thessalonians 3:10
