The male mind can be a wonderful thing, but only once it’s been tamed! One author called it a “runaway stag,” which brings me back to my early childhood on a farm. The male of any species I’ve ever observed is like a runaway sex machine! It really doesn’t matter who, or where… Needs MUST be met! The standard for human beings is much higher, and higher yet for Christ followers. While most Christian men do bring the majority of their physical actions under control, many often go on rationalizing that what goes on in their minds should be off limits to the purifying work of the Holy Spirit. Jesus begs to differ! Jesus clearly points out that “anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (Matthew 5:28). And the ancient but well known Old Testament truth still stands strong today, “as he thinketh in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7) (KJV). Is your mind a runaway stag? Do you find your mind undressing people right before your eyes? Can you mate with random people at will? Have you savored illicit romances in your mind to replay over and over again? Are your quiet times of prayer interrupted by thoughts so clearly sinful God feels a billion miles away? If so, you are in desperate need of the “renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2) that God promises. Our Lord cannot bless a Christian life that is a sham. Decide today to submit your mind to God. Make a “covenant with…[your] eyes not to look lustfully at a girl” (Job 31:1) and take EVERY thought captive! Rivet this thought into your mind: God will always seem a billion miles away until I submit ALL OF ME to His Lordship.
