Don’t Tell Me What To Think?
I recently heard a conference speaker remark, “Don’t ever let anyone tell you what to think.” As usual, when folks say things from podiums, the general inclination is just to shake your head, “yes,” and keep on listening. I had a different reaction this time, however. It came to me that for about twenty-five years I was on a direct course for an eternity in hell. It probably looked like I was a total lunatic, always acting like I knew everything! The truth was that I was searching… I had no anchor to hold me and I was drifting through life making it up as I went along. Unfortunately, because of my pathetic attitude, and some apathy on their parts, even the folks who knew the “truth” wouldn’t share it with me. Finally though, someone who cared more about lost souls than “political correctness” leveled with me. “Jim, without a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, you’ll spend an eternity separated from God.” I will be eternally grateful for the person God led to me to “tell me what to think!”
“These are the things you are to do: Speak the truth to each other, and render true and sound judgment in your courts.” Zechariah 8:16
If you believed your next door neighbors house was on fire, would you go over and tell them… or would you be afraid you might offend them by pushing your beliefs off on them? Silly, isn’t it! That’s the way it is with a lot of the devil’s propaganda. It just doesn’t stand up under a microscope of truth.
In Christ,
