Famine?

There are famines all over the world today.  After awhile, the names of the places where people are starving seem to run together in the news.  Surely a list would immediately include the Sudan and Ethiopia.  But what about the United States of America.  Could it be possible that the United States would be included in such a list?  Isn’t the U.S. the richest and most powerful country in the world?  Sure it is, but there are still people starving here.  What’s possibly worse though, and definitely harder to repair, is the famine of God’s Word that has spread across this once Christian nation.  Once a famine for God’s Word comes, more difficult times will follow.  Have you noticed that people aren’t hearing from the Lord like they have in the past.  What about the Bible?  Would you agree that our nation has all but discounted it’s timeless treasure?  Remember the Scriptures and partake of them as often as you can.  Do everything you can to store up the Word in your heart.  God’s Word is the one type of food you can store up for a lifetime… and there is definitely a day coming when you’ll be glad you stored it up!

“The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign Lord, “when I will send a famine through the land–not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord.  Men will stagger from sea to sea and wonder from north to east, searching for the word of the Lord, but they will not find it.”  Amos 8:11-12
