Has God ever called you to give up a plan you had or something you really wanted for yourself? I’ve had that urging and I know there have been times I’ve resisted God–usually just pretending I didn’t hear Him or something novel like that! It occurred to me the other day that God often works this way, not because He wants us to forget all the plans we have for ourselves, but so He can reveal to us the greater plan He has–the reason we were created in the first place! For example, Moses (surely as common a household name as any name ever was) was laid smack-dab in the lap of luxury, and as the adopted son of Pharaoh’s daughter, would have helped rule a dynasty that still has it’s marks in our society–OR, he could follow God and spend the rest of His life eating sand, eventually to be buried in it! I wonder… would we have ever heard the name “Moses” if he had chosen to go his own way?
“By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.” Hebrews 11:24-26
