Misery Loves Company!

You’ve probably heard the old saying, “misery loves company,” and it could not ring truer in some religious circles.  Jesus died so that we could be released from the endless rules and regulations of the law of Moses, but man continues to try to receive God’s approval through self denial and deprecation.  And, of course, if man decides that something is “ungodly,” then he won’t want anyone else who calls himself godly to do it either!  This type of attitude permeated the early Christian church because most of the new believers came from strict Jewish backgrounds.  It was that very background that Jesus used as a backdrop for the cross.  Will we ever learn that we are “approved” by God through what Jesus did, and not through anything we could add to it!  Anything we do after receiving salvation is simply an effort to say, “Thank you, Jesus!”

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.  Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”  Galatians 5:1
