100% Committed!

As I read the stories of the Old Testament Kings in the Bible, I can’t help but find myself drawing parallels with Christian life today. There were some kings who were 100% sold out for God, and God poured out incredible blessings on their land while they were king. Unfortunately, there are other kings that were 100% sold out to evil, and God not only removed His blessings from their land, but brought destruction on them as well. And, as is common with Christians of today, there were plenty of kings who went a long way toward serving God, but refused to clean up a few little areas of their land. Do you know these people? They’re the Christians who do the “Sunday” thing, and maybe even the “Wednesday” thing, but somewhere they’ve got an area or two they refuse to clean up. Maybe it’s sexual sins; problems with their thought life; gambling addictions; pornography; selfishness, etc. Either way, they’re not only missing God’s blessings because if it, they’re also risking His wrath. You can go to Bible studies 7-days a week, and help homeless people in your spare time, but if you’re trying to hide something from God, you’re only fooling yourself.

“Asa [King of Judah] did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, as his father David had done. He expelled the male shrine prostitutes from the land and got rid of all the idols his fathers had made. He even deposed his grandmother Maacah from her position as queen mother, because she had made a repulsive Asherah pole. Asa cut the pole down and burned it in the Kidron Valley. Although he did not remove the high places, Asa’s heart was fully committed to the Lord all his life.” 1 Kings 15:11-14

How many of us will have that written about us… “________’s heart was fully committed to the Lord all his/her life.”

In Christ,
