What would you do if the president of a country sent you an invitation to come and be honored? It would be a rare person who would turn down that invitation. Similarly, I’ve heard it said that prayer is a royal invitation to come and receive blessings, yet many of us turn God’s invitation down day after day! When Christ died on the cross, we’re told that the temple curtains were torn from top to bottom, indicating that we can now come directly to the Father, in the name of the Son, Jesus Christ. We don’t need a priest or a prophet to intercede for us–through the urging of the Holy Spirit, we can take our requests directly to the Father.
Some reasons why we don’t pray:
Lack of discipline
Lack of faith
Lack of sensing a nearness to God
We don’t realize the need
We don’t realize the greatness of God
We don’t know how to pray
We have sin in our lives
Some ways to grow in prayer:
Pray more
Meditate on scriptures
Journal your prayers
Pray with others
Read about prayer
Repent and receive forgiveness for sins
“But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit.” Jude 20
