I was reading an article tonight about all the pollutants in our air. I found it interesting, because 20 minutes earlier I was listening to a radio program about all the impurities in our water supply. The bottom line on both the articles was that we need to use a filter… the better the filter, the more pollutants you pull out…. And isn’t that just like the mind? I’ve worn myself out telling youth to guard their minds. “Watch your input!” “What goes in will NEVER come out!” “Turn off your television and read something positive!” They say you can tell what a preacher’s own personal struggles are by what he preaches about the most. In this case, I believe that’s true. It’s taken the Lord many years to undue much of the self-inflicted damage I did to my mind as a young man.
“Finally, brother’s, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.” Philippians 4:8
If you struggle here too, I challenge you to change the way you think. Build a “spiritual filter” that will only let the right stuff through. How do you do that? Read your Bible, pray for the Lord’s help, fellowship with other Christians, attend worship services, memorize scripture, and, above all else, turn off your stinkin’ television!
