Accountability

Our Catholic brothers and sisters are required to confess their sins and seek absolution on a regular basis. I’m clearly not an expert here, but I do find this practice very interesting. Although most Protestant denominations do not seek absolution through an earthly priest, the concept of confessing our sins to each other is clearly biblical.

“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.” James 5:16a

I wonder how much stronger our Christian walks would be if we actually practiced this commandment? Think about it… Godly men and women repenting from their sins and praying for one another. If you’ve never tried it, I highly recommend giving it a shot. Several of my Catholic subscribers practice “accountability” with other believers in addition to confessing their sins to a priest. Although I don’t recommend running from person to person and confessing anything, no matter what your denomination, there’s nothing quite like having someone you trust to hold you accountable in the Lord.
