I always enjoy Easter. Not the “bunny” or any of that stuff mind you, but the celebration of Jesus rising from the dead. What an awesome feeling it is to realize death has been defeated, Satan is a liar, and Jesus Christ is Lord! There is simply no more important date on the Christian calendar. As the memories of Easter celebrations at your place of worship begin to fade from your mind, I’d like to refuel it with this one last thought. On the Friday before Easter we mourn the agony of the cross–the unbelievable cruelty bestowed upon that faithful Nazarene. So we follow up this day of mourning with a celebration. We bring out the nice suits, the big hats, and probably even the good china, too! But consider this thought. Easter isn’t just a celebration–It’s a promise of things to come. The tomb was empty that morning my friends… and if it wasn’t… If Jesus was not raised from the dead, if there was some huge conspiracy, some monumental hoax, some mix-up that has found its way through generations of storytelling, then followers of Christ are to be pitied more than those of any other religion on earth. If the tomb wasn’t empty, then we would have nothing. We would have nothing at all!
“Early on the first day of the week, while it was till dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance.” John 20:1 “After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living…” 1 Corinthians 15:6a
