Before Babylon fell it had a serious problem. Instead of serving God, the people had turned to idols. They were caught up in every kind of sin–from the smallest to the greatest, they did them all. Many prophets of the Lord spoke to them, but they refused to listen. It was as if they didn’t really believe there was a God. They mocked anyone who spoke anything of God and they even put them to death. Rather than turning toward God, they continued to turn away from Him. Instead, they thought it wise to seek astrologers and the like–putting their faith in demons and in money. God had much to say to them… and I believe He is saying the same to us today. We are in fact no different than they were. We might even be worse.
“Keep on, then, with your magic spells and with your many sorceries, which you have labored at since childhood. Perhaps you will succeed, perhaps you will cause terror. All the counsel you have received has only worn you out! Let your astrologers come forward, those stargazers who make predictions month by month, let them save you from what is coming upon you.” Isaiah 47:12-13
