Bonded!

When I was a young man, a handshake was all it took to seal even the largest of deals. A person’s “word was his bond” as the saying goes. Today, I find it much more difficult to find people who are honest, and this includes those who congregate in churches. “Honestly,” I’ve had more trouble when I’ve taken a Christian at his word than I have with those who don’t know the Lord. This troubles me greatly! It’s hard to know who to trust and who not to. Isn’t the church–the Body of Christ–supposed to be a family? If your word is worthless among your own family members, then it can’t be worth much to a lost and hurting world either. This lack of honesty not only hurts the church family by developing a climate of mistrust, but it also does the work of the enemy, keeping others away from the church. At any rate, no matter what other people do, our God is a God of His Word. To emulate Him requires honesty, even when it hurts!
