From the earliest days of mankind God has always provided for his creation. Often He’s used bread as a symbol for this provision. After the Israelites fled Egypt, God provided manna for His people to eat, literally it was called “bread from heaven.” Later, God directed that His Temple always have bread on the alter. Later, Jesus said that His body was our “bread.” The message to us is that whenever life is sustained, or new life is given, God is there! This message is undeniable in the Scriptures, but it is obviously deniable by the majority of people God provides for today. Most of God’s creation enjoy His provision without even acknowledging His existence. When you “break bread,” remember that there is always someone else there at the table with you. He’s the One that gives and sustains life. Whether you’re at home, at McDonald’s or at a five-star restaurant, acknowledge Him with a word of thanksgiving.
“For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” John 6:33
