Charity?

harvestdayton

We have an interesting way about us today.  The vast majority of the world is pursuing either wealth, power, or both.  Most really have just one goal; retirement!  Even many who are living far beyond their financial means are still trying to set something aside for the day they can retire to some sunny location.  Of course, keeping up with the neighbors by charging your credit cards to the max doesn’t make much financial sense, but what’s logical about a life of excess anyway?  I believe a majority of Christians would be shocked to learn that God calls us to a completely different life.  Instead of a life of excess, He calls us to a life of charity.  Only about twenty percent of Christians even support their local churches, much less give to anyone else.  Hoarding anything is ungodly, and all the more if those around you are in want.  As followers of Christ, everything we have should be placed squarely under His Lordship.  Sure, save for your children’s education.  Put something away to provide for difficult times, but be careful to listen to the still small voice of God.  He may just be calling you to “love your neighbor.”

“All the believers were one in heart and mind.  No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had.”  Acts 4:12
