What is it that you’ve been worrying about lately? Have you been letting something you have no control over rob you of your joy? Some people clearly have a better grasp on this than others, but I’d bet we all struggle with it from time-to-time. When I was in college, I learned a simple management principle. If something is in your “span of control,” and it needs to be dealt with, then do your best to deal with it. If it’s outside your span of control, then prepare as well as possible, but don’t waste precious resources trying to control it! Jesus calls us to do something similar when he tells us that He will take care of us, if we will simply place our trust in Him.
“Then Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable are you than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?'” Jesus of Nazareth (Luke 12:22-26)
Isn’t it awesome that we don’t have to wear clothes from “Abercrombie and Fitch” or whatever’s “cool” today to be accepted by our Lord and Savior! Then why are we so worried about what everyone else thinks?
