Eye Candy

Some folks may find this a huge surprise, but God knows that you have sexual desires and thoughts! That’s right kiddies, God knows it! Not only that, but He designed us so that we WOULD be attracted to the opposite sex. (Please note that I did say “opposite sex.”. There seems to be some confusion about that in many Christian circles these days.) When God made Eve, Adam immediately knew she was the “mate” for him. I’ve heard it said that Adam’s comment, “she is bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh,” can be roughly translated, “Oh baby!! You are lookin’ fine!” So what’s my point in all this? It’s that many Christian men, although they may never actually take their thoughts all the way to the action step, lust in their minds about women they find attractive. Many also find themselves either exposing themselves to pornography, or even addicted to it. For those with many years of a solid Christian walk, they may have gotten a handle on the “lust” part, and maybe they’ve never even seen pornography, but with myself included, many will still never miss “looking” at a pretty girl. Sound unfair? If I were a betting man I’d bet I don’t get too much mail from men (young or old) refuting what I’ve just said. In fact, the opposite will be true. Most males will immediately agree with my statement, and most will find themselves convicted by Scriptures relating to this type of sin. You see, even looking can become a sin if you let it go beyond just “noticing”. As soon as you start to “look her up and down” then you’re not operating in the Spirit… you’re playing in the devil’s ball game now. I know it’s a struggle guys, but we’ve got to do everything possible to keep our minds pure. Continuously consuming “eye candy” can go a long way in keeping your mind off the things of the Lord.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Jesus of Nazareth (Matthew 5:28)

And… just so you young ladies don’t get away clean, watching the way you dress can go a long way toward keeping yourself Holy and not causing your brother to sin.

“And if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone tied around his neck.” Jesus of Nazareth (Mark 9:24)
