Father’s Day!

“When our fathers were in Egypt, they gave no thought to your miracles; they did not remember your many kindnesses, and they rebelled by the sea, the Red Sea.” Psalm 106:7

We live in an interesting time. As I look back through the Scriptures, I find many times that seem a lot like the days we’re living in now. Like the verse above indicates, “fathers” have often forsaken their duties, and forsaken the God who made them. I believe today is such a day. I once heard a jailhouse Chaplain (preacher) speak of the things every young convict has in common and I was so moved that I cried. Almost every young person who is jailed was fatherless as a child. What’s more, as the Chaplain went down the list, I found myself mentally checking off each one of the items–each of them had happened in my own life. It was at that moment I knew it was only by the grace of God I didn’t wind up in a penitentiary instead of a ministry! What’s more, I was also a very young father, and frankly, I wasn’t very good at it. Today, I’ve learned a lot about parenting–and I’ve learned ALL of it from either the Word of God, or from watching Godly men. This weekend we celebrate Father’s Day in the United States, and I’m hoping I get at least one power tool, and a few hugs and some scribble drawings from my kids. If you’ve got a dad, go hug his neck. And if you don’t, take a minute to thank God He fills that void for you. I only saw my real father once after my second birthday. If it wasn’t for my heavenly Father, I wouldn’t be writing this devotional to you today.

“But you, O God, do see trouble and grief; you consider it to take it in hand. The victim commits himself to you; you are the helper of the fatherless.”  Psalm 10:14

Before I became a Christian, I wanted nothing to do with Christianity or religion!  I just knew I’d have to stop doing all the “fun” things I was doing!  Controlled by the flesh, I had no concept thes

For years now I’ve been learning a little more about Jesus each and every day. I suppose I’ve learned more than the average person, but surely I’ll not understand all of His teachings while I’m in th
