Sure, we’ve all heard the command not to seek our own revenge, that it’s God’s place to defend us. But we’ve also heard it said that “revenge is a dish best served cold!” The fact of the matter is that when someone wrongs us, the flesh in us wants to wrong them back. Hey, I’m the average American male. Apart from a relationship with Christ, I’d personally guarantee you I’d get back at anyone who wronged me or a member of my family. The problem is that not only did the Lord give us the command not to seek revenge, but He also set the perfect example for us. It’s hard, if not impossible, to seek revenge when we have such a loving example of how to live out the command.
“When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.” 1 Peter 2:23
