Hateful?

Of all the folks in the world today who can be hateful, many who call themselves Christians seem to rank right up there with some hate groups.  Is it any wonder that Christians are often known for what they’re against rather than for what they are for.  What’s worse, unlike most groups who dislike this or that, quite a number of those professing Christ as Lord have aim most of their disdain at members of their own gang.  Just the other day I read a bumper sticker that begged, “Jesus, protect me from your followers.”  Initially I was a little offended, but on further consideration, I thought I might get one myself!  I readily admit that some of the “stuff” that goes on at church in the name of Christ really gets under my skin.  But… of the evidence that the Holy Spirit occasionally works through me, the greatest is that God has truly changed my heart toward other people.  That’s right… toward normal, ordinary, everyday people.  You see, God loves people… it’s sin He hates.  If the Spirit is working through you, you’ll also see a love for your fellow man streaking through the darkness that used to enshroud your heart.

“We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers.  Anyone who does not love remains in death.”  1 John 3:14
