How would you feel if you walked into church just in time to hear the pastor publicly recognize somebody else for doing something you’d slaved over for weeks? Obviously, just about anyone would be hurt, and probably angry, too. Still, I’ve heard it said, “Oh, what the world could accomplish if nobody cared who got the credit.” I know I struggle in this area. I’m high strung, goal-oriented and I take a lot of pride in doing things well and on time. The problem is my focus can sometimes move away from what God wants, toward what I’m trying to do for God. Subtle as it may seem, there’s a world of difference there. Here’s the problem. As long as we focus on OUR goals and OUR ideas, we will always want the credit–kingdom related or not. It’s when we truly seek what God wants and pursue those things, that we don’t care who gets the credit–We’re just happy we can use our God given gifts toward His ends!

“The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits or rage, SELFISH AMBITION, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like.” Galatians 5:19-21a
