“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” James 1:22
The scriptures tell us that we were created and that we’ve been saved for a purpose–for God’s purpose. In Ephesians we read that He prepared good works in advance just for us to accomplish during our time on earth (2:10). How are you doing in the category of serving others? Do you do anything for your local church, or for your youth group, or maybe for a charity near where you live? What gifts has God given you to serve others? We know from the Scriptures that He’s given you at least one gift to use for His purposes. I’ve heard it said that 20% of the folks in any given church accomplish 80% of what needs to be done. Incidentally, they also give 80% of the money. Meanwhile, 80% do (and give) 20%–many of them then show up on Sunday morning, expect to be served, and complain about anything that doesn’t go their way! Not surprisingly, the poor 20% are tired, over-stretched, and under-appreciated. Which percentile do you fall under? If you think you’re on the wrong one, it’s not to late to switch teams!
