I Don’t Need That Stuff?

Maybe it’s just me, but I seem to run into a lot of people who’ve decided that church is “not their cup of tea.” Most of them claim Jesus as Lord (or at least as Savior), but have decided the church is full of hypocrites, or that they only want money, or whatever else they can think of. I guess I’m not surprised church isn’t their thing. Each one of those excuses points the finger at someone (or something) else, and are each aimed at pleasing oneself. The problem is the focus. Church was never intended for pleasing ourselves, it was ordained so we could serve others! A person who goes to church to “get something” will never be satisfied. Sure, I like the sermons and I feel like I get “fed” at my church. Still, that’s not why we should go. How about going to church to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord, to worship a Holy God, to fellowship with those around us, or to minister to those God has put in our charge? I’ve heard it said we were created to serve others, and we will never be satisfied until we use our gifts in that capacity. No wonder so many never find a church home they enjoy.

“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.”  1 Peter 4:10

For years now I’ve been learning a little more about Jesus each and every day. I suppose I’ve learned more than the average person, but surely I’ll not understand all of His teachings while I’m in th
