When I was about twenty, I picked up a Bible for the first time and read through the book of Revelation. As you might imagine, due in part to the apocalyptic form of writing found there, coupled with the fact I was reading a King James Version, I didn’t understand a word I read. My assumption… The Bible is a stupid book, completely irrelevant to life on earth–a complete and utter waste of time! Of course, that made it easy for me to go on living my life the way I wanted to live it–the only moral compass I had being my own “thoughts” about the way things should be. Later though, after God worked on me for a few more years, I was introduced to the Bible in a different way. Little pieces of it were explained to me by a Christian friend, and also by preachers on a Christian radio station I occasionally listened to. It wasn’t long before the Spirit of God started to reveal the incredible Truth I had so easily discounted just a few years before. Today, the Bible is a huge part of my daily life, and I look to it, at least in part, for every single question, problem, or situation that arises each day. It has truly become an incredible treasure before my very eyes. But then again, it always was an incredible treasure. I was simply blinded by the flesh and my desire to “do it MY way!” As I’m sure you’ve realized, this revelation fuels my desire to bring a digestible piece of God’s Word directly into YOUR life each day!
“The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.” Psalm 119:130
