No matter where I go in the Bible, I’m always amazed at the truth about human nature I find there. One of the most pervasive realizations I get from the Scriptures is that humans are flat-out hard-headed. Most of us are so enamoured with pleasing ourselves, we often don’t even consider our God, or His commands. As examples for us, many stories of the Israelites are presented on the pages of the Old Testament. Time and time again they brought destruction upon themselves because of their “stiff-necked” and selfish attitudes. Still, often it would be one man or woman who would find favor with God and change history. In one such account, Daniel begins to plead to the Lord for the Jews caught in Babylonian exile. Here’s an excerpt of what a messenger of the Lord said to him…
“Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them.” Daniel 10:12b
Did you catch it? 1) Seek understanding from God and His Word. 2) Humble yourself.
Now, as simple as that sounds, it’s rarely done. Are you seeking understanding from God’s Word with all heart? Moreover, are you humbling yourself before the Lord. As difficult as it is, and friend, I KNOW it’s difficult, this is the only way we will ever find favor with our God and healing for our nation.
