You know, some people are just jerks! I know I’m not the only person in the world to feel that way, and since these daily devotionals scream out for honesty, I thought I’d better just go ahead and say it! There are jerks at work, in church, in front of me in the line at the grocery store, in the car behind me–they’re everywhere! This being a fact that’s hard to deny, what are we “Christians” supposed to do about it? First, we should probably realize we are probably the “jerk” the other guy is upset about more than we care to notice. Second, we should remember the height from which we’ve fallen, and we’ve been saved by God’s grace alone! Third, and probably most difficult, we must pray for the people that really get under our skin! That’s right, friends, the one you hate the most should be right near the top of your prayer list. It’s quite interesting this thing called prayer. Not only can we use it to communicate with God, but God uses it to communicate with us. When we pray for our enemies, He uses our prayers to soften our hearts!
“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16
