“Many will say to me on that day, `Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, `I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'” Jesus of Nazareth (Matthew 7:22-23)
Do you “know” Jesus? As He personally exclaimed in Matthew 7:22-23, many who claim to know him in fact do not. There is a lot of “church work” being done by folks who are very busy for Jesus, but who have never met Him. Knowing someone demands intimacy… and knowing Jesus is no different. The thought of otherwise good people begrudgingly attending sermons or sitting in church meetings year after year without actually knowing the King hurts my very soul. I’m positive it grieves the heart of Jesus even more. Oh, how He wants to know us! If only we’d stop trying to earn our way into his presence and simply look up and accept His outstretched hand. Then, and only then, will one speck of our efforts ever earn us anything from our Savior. And then, and only then will we finally understand and run toward Him with all we are!
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.” Matthew 13:44
