Sometimes Christians can be an impatient people with incredibly short memories. A moment or two of serious reflection on what God has done for us can go a long way toward keeping us faithful to Him. What’s He done for you lately?. How about the air you breath for starters, or maybe the food you eat? Or consider the really important things like family, friends… and oh yea, saving our wretched souls from an eternity in hell! And what does He ask of us? He simply asks us to love our neighbors as ourselves, and to be faithful to Him. What husband wouldn’t want the same from his bride? Unfortunately, a lot of the people I meet who call themselves Christians are quite unfaithful indeed. Short memories? Yea, many of us somehow forget what God has done for us, wondering back into a life of depravity. Satan is all to happy to welcome us home. Some stray even farther, deciding instead that they will “try” other religions and see what happens there. Just like a runaway slave, we forget our souls have been bought and paid for–redeemed by the precious Blood of Christ. Our loving Father will continue to pursue us, but what unbelievable peace and satisfaction we forfeit in the process of searching the grass on the “other side of the fence.” And what’s worse, the testimony we give the unbelievers who are watching us may just keep them out of His outstretched arms.
“… be careful not to be ensnared by inquiring about their gods, saying, ‘How do these nations serve their gods? We will do the same.’ Deuteronomy 12:30b
