If you handed the average American a survey with the question, “Are you a Christian?” on it, the vast majority of them would answer, “Yes.” Unfortunately, many of them, even though they believe they are “Christians,” are, in fact, NOT Christians. Knowing the Lord Jesus Christ entails a whole lot more than simply saying you know Him… or even more, saying you’re actually a member of His family when you’ve never even met Him! To make my point, I ask you this question: Have you ever seen a person in your church or youth group that says they’re a Christian, but exhibits none of the “fruit” that would associated with such a thing? I’m not asking you to judge the person (or persons), but just to be a type of “fruit inspector.” Now, with that individual in mind, does the person have “living water” flowing from them, or is it just venom?
Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” Jesus of Nazareth (John 7:38)
We are to be wise in the ways of the world, but not part of the world. I urge you to choose carefully who you make close Christian ties with; i.e., who you seek out for wisdom and counsel–Remember, the enemy is at work in the church, too!
And since we’re on the topic. Which one most often flows from you?
