“But doesn’t the Bible say….? I hear this question a lot, and generally it’s not because people are completely ignorant of Biblical teachings, but rather than they have taken them out of context. Sure, the Bible says lots of things about things we can and cannot do, but we need to remember we are part of the New Testament church. We live under the new covenant in Jesus Christ. What that means is we are not longer bound by many of the teachings of the Old Testament. Of course, this doesn’t mean the Old Testament is (or was) not God’s Word, but rather it was God’s Word for a time and for a reason. The easiest way for me to understand it was this: God was preparing us for Salvation. He convicted us of our sinfulness through the Old Testament Law, and then He set us free from it (and from sin), through the blood of His Only Son. Find out what the Bible says and live it! But, don’t forget that the Law you were under before you knew the Lord is dead to you now! You are a new creation! “Before this faith came [faith in Christ Jesus], we were held prisoners by the law, locked up until faith should be revealed. So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith. Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law.” Galatians 3:23-25 In Christ, PastorJimKilby @Kilbin8er Jim@JamesKilby.com
