“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Jesus of Nazareth (John 13:34-35)
If you were happy and I told you to cry, could you do it? Could you do it on the spot? Can you drum-up any genuine emotion on command? I know our heavenly Father often commands us to have a certain outlook or attitude on this or on that, but here’s one thing He never does. He never commands us to have an emotion! This is precisely why I know love is not an emotion. Love is a commitment and a choice. Forget what you’ve heard — Love is not an emotion! Check-out this commonly quoted scripture in this new light.
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” 1Corinthians 13:4-7
