No Foolin’

When I was a kid my mother used to make us Kool Aid if we were good.  I loved it, and I can still remember the taste of a cold glass of the sugary stuff now 50 years later!  My wife drank the same thing when she was young, but for some reason her family mixed in less sugar.  Maybe they decided sugar was bad for them.  Believe it or not, however, this seemingly little problem has come to cause major problems in our marriage!  When I drink Kool Aid my wife makes, I think it tastes watery and bitter.  In fact, I hate it!  When I mix it up, I add extra sugar and she thinks it’s too sweet!  “SO WHAT?” You may ask!  When something that’s supposed to be served-up full strength is watered down it’s just not any good, no matter how “better for you” it may be advertised.  And if it’s too sweet, that’s not good either.   Some ministries, churches, pastors and teachers have decided that the large portions of the Bible are just not relevant, or maybe are just too graphic or too divisive!  So they water it down, or they sweeten it up.  Either way, it’s not the original “recipe” God intended.  Whether they skip parts, rearrange parts, or flat out change parts, in the end, it’s worthless!  God’s Word is what it is!  Let’s drink it full strength… and take Him at His Word.

“Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart.  Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God.  On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.”  2 Corinthians 4:1-2
