Pathetic?

Before I was a Christian, I had a few basic thoughts about Christians.  First, they were stupid.  Second, they were way out of touch with reality.  And third, they probably had little or no fun in life.  While some of those stereotypes were probably earned by the brand of Christian I always seemed to run into, I’ve learned that they are anything but realistic when you meet the real article.  A true Christian, someone whose given his or her life completely to Christ will be anything but stupid.  They’ll be wiser about human nature, money, interpersonal relationships, and on and on.  What’s more, they’ll be more in touch with reality than any non-Christian around them.  Not the reality Satan tries to spin for us, but real “reality.”  And lastly, while I was mocking Christians for their pathetic lives, I was the one caught in the middle of a nasty divorce, spent most Friday and Saturday nights stumbling around in a bar room, and many of the wee hours of the morning sleeping on my bathroom floor.  Wow, that was sure fun!  Now though, I really am having fun… and I’ve learned that life as a Christian is tough, but it’s anything but what I thought it was.  It’s like being an alien on a planet that’s gone crazy, but holding a ticket to an eternity so awesome the human mind can’t even imagine it.  While we’re here, we need to be doing everything we can to bring every one we can with us.  We’ll do that best by not looking or acting pathetic, but by setting the example and not apologizing for it.

“I am sending you out like sheep among wolves.  Therefore, be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.”  (Jesus of Nazareth)  Matthew 10:16
