Pillage

For those folks who’ve read through the Old Testament, or have some interest in ancient Israel, they’ll no doubt be familiar with the Ark of the Covenant.  The Ark (no, not the big boat!) was Israel’s most prized possession, a gift to them from God… a gift that signified God’s presence and His awesome power.  The Israelites even carried it with them to battle, knowing that if they drew near to God, that He would draw near to them and help them defeat their enemies.  Or should I say, His enemies!  Unfortunately, because of their “stiff knecks” and their earthly ways, from time-to-time the Israelites themselves became God’s enemies.  On one of these occasions, He allowed their most prized possession to fall into the hands of the enemy.  Imagine for a minute, suffering a total defeat in battle, and then watching helplessly as the enemy took your most prized possession into a foreign and wicked land.

He sent [the ark of] his might into captivity, his splendor into the hands of the enemy.  Psalm 78:61

We no longer have the Ark to carry around with us, but we do have many other incredible gifts from our heavenly Father.  When I think of what we’ve allowed Satan to do with one of the most precious of those gifts, I wonder how God must feel.  I’m speaking of the gift of “sex.”  Yep, that’s right!  SEX!  God designed sex, and gave it to us as a Holy and perfect thing to be shared between a man and his wife.  I wonder if God doesn’t look at our nation today and grieve like the Israelites did when the Ark of the Covenant was being pillaged by the enemy.

Friends, our country needs prayer, and we need that precious gift back where it belongs.  Won’t you do your part?

“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.  The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.”  Genesis 2:24-25
