Please Stand By

When I was a young man, cable TV hadn’t come on the circuit yet.  Although cable can clearly go on the “blink,” this type of thing was much more prevalent with pre-cable television.  I can remember several occasions when, as a boy,  I’d be enthralled with a television show and just then the quite familiar “Please Stand By” would come on the screen.  Often the show never continued, as time ran out for the “slot” before things were working again.  This actually happened at my house today, and on cable TV to boot!  My four-year old daughter couldn’t believe it.  I guess it’s the first time something like this has ever happened to her.  She absolutely did not know what to do…. and it made me think.  With the flurry of activity in our lives today–with the multitude of “amusement opportunities” available to us, I wonder if we ever just take a few minutes to think.  To “stand by” so to speak, while God reveals something to us through the stillness of our Spirits.  How long has it been for you?  I’ve got to tell you, listening to the Creator of everything is a whole lot more interesting that cable TV!

“Listen and hear my voice; pay attention and hear what I say.”  Isaiah 28:23
