Who has the honor of holding the most important, the preeminent, relationship in your life? Who is the absolute most important person in your life right this moment? When you wake up in the morning, who is it you most want to talk to or to see? For some, it’s a boyfriend or a girlfriend (although that person might be replaced by another in a moment’s notice!). For some, it’s a mom or a dad… or maybe even a big brother or sister. For most, however, the preeminent relationship in their life is reserved solely for themselves. Most folks are more concerned about “self” than about anything or anyone else. Other relationships, no matter how strong, are often just to appease and get whatever “self” wants. The pursuit of “stuff,” no matter how extravagant, is also generally meant to appease “self.” This, my friends, is the essence of sin. The opposite, and the desire of your heart should be to put Jesus Christ in the position of most importance. Is that where He is? When Christians use the term “a personal relationship with Jesus Christ,” I wonder if they really consider just how “personal” that relationship needs to be. Is He your best friend? Is He the one you want to spend intimate quiet time with? Is it Jesus that you FIRST call when you need a helping hand or an ear to listen? Dear friends, hear me when I say I struggle just like you do. My reminder to myself might help you as well…
“Dear Jesus, I want YOU to be my #1! Help me to put YOU in your proper place in my life and to keep You there minute by minute!”
“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.'” Mark 12:30
