Press On!

I’d be the first to point out to anyone struggling with the assurance of their salvation that when God promises to do something, He does do it. Therefore, if you’ve called on the name of Jesus in genuine repentance and prayer, He has forgiven your sins and saved your soul from hell. As a result, you are “born again” and the Spirit of God lies within you. That being said, many take this assurance as some sort of call to a lifelong vacation from serving others and struggling with their brothers and sisters in the Body. Many take this assurance of salvation to forgo even sharing their faith with unbelievers. Honestly, I wonder if any faith that looks like that is genuine faith at all. I believe the best attitude to take is the one the Apostle Paul took when he penned this Scripture:

“Not that I have already obtained all this [becoming like Christ in his death and attaining resurrection from the dead], or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. BROTHERS, I DO NOT CONSIDER MYSELF YET TO HAVE TAKEN HOLD OF IT. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:12-14 (Emphasis mine)
