I’ve spent some time in the Scriptures each and every day for many years. I’ve found that nothing else quite comes close to bringing me into a oneness with the Lord and also with the prophets and men and women of God who came before me. If you’ve received my e-devotionals for long, you’ll know that I highly recommend everyone spend a portion of the day studying God’s Word. Generally I advocate it because I know that God will use His Word to change hearts. But there’s another reason. Many people who’ve walked with the Lord for a few years can lose interest in the Bible. Then a “Hey, I’ve read it all before,” attitude sometimes prevails. But “reading” the Word is not the point. It’s studying and meditating on the Word that we need. Getting to know Christ through God’s written revelation to us can not only help us, but it can help others too. Ask yourself, “Am I well-versed enough in the Scriptures to lead someone else to Christ or to provide anyone solid Biblical advice?” If yes, then keep up the good work. If not, there’s no time like today to get started!
“On arriving, he [Apollos] was a great help to those who by grace had believed. For he vigorously refuted the Jews in public debate, proving from the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.” Acts 18:27b-28
