Soon after Judas betrayed Christ, he killed himself in the field bought with the money he received for his actions. Following Christ’s resurrection, the Apostles, with Peter at the helm, decided they would need to replace Judas. Considering the weighty nature of the decision and the pain associated with his betrayal of the Messiah, I think it’s safe to say this was a major decision for the young church. Check out what their first priority was…
“They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.” Acts 1:12
I also think it’s safe to say that most of us approach our major decisions with an amount of prayer… but if you’re anything like me, that prayer is often superficial. Let’s face it, many times we’ve already made up our minds about what we’re going to do. Unless the Lord intervenes with lightening and clouds of smoke, we’re probably going to do it our way. Is it any wonder many of our plans don’t work out so well? Truthfully… did you spend any real time in prayer before your last major decision?
