Many people know me as a guy with a pretty solid reputation of faithfully doing the Lord’s work. The truth is that I’m a work in progress as much as anybody else! I’ve had quite a few years to learn and grow in the Lord, but that often is used by the enemy to point out how much further I should have grown by now. When I fail, the facts that I should know better, should be stronger, and should repent sooner are all there to laugh at me. The author of a Bible study book I recently read asked, “Can you think of ways in which your spiritual reputation exceeds your true spiritual situation? I can currently think of several. When the Holy Spirit convicts us of these areas of our lives, we need to all be diligent at working on them right away. Failing to do so is the greatest way I know of falling headfirst into one of Satan’s insidious traps!
“He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil’s trap.” 1 Timothy 3:7
