Runnin’ On Empty

Like many of you, I started out my morning by spending some time alone in God’s Word. I followed that up with some quiet time and some prayer. Wow! What a way to start the day with my spiritual meter registering “full”. Why is it that only a few short hours later, I found myself running on empty? Operating not on God’s power, but on my own–totally drained and angry at the world. Sometime during the day I took my eyes off of Him and put them on myself.

“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” Matthew 14:28-31

Just like Peter before us, no matter how good we seem to be doing, when we take our eyes off of Christ we quickly start to sink.

In Christ,
