Savvy?

Watching Presidential debates and the thousand other political races going on these days gives me a headache! I’m always amazed at folks who make careers of making and breaking promises and repeatedly get elected. It doesn’t seem to matter which side you poll, or which race you watch, each will be pointing the finger at the other, and the biggest liar often gets the vote. In contrast, honest folks who run for office with a real desire to change things can appear simple minded to voters taken in by the flash of more worldly opponents. I guess truth really is the first casualty in an election. Either way, this is no surprise to God, and should be no surprise to us. Christian voters must go beyond the rhetoric and look at the character of the candidates. It makes no difference what a candidate promises if they have no intention of keeping it.

“For the people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than are the people of the light.” Jesus of Nazareth (Luke 16:8b)
