Servants?

I heard a promoter for contemporary Christian artists give a talk the other day.   Something he said really unsettled my spirit.  He spoke of various groups (he didn’t name them) that act a whole lot more like Hollywood royalty than they do ministers of the Lord.  He went on and on about how demanding they are.  Insistent, “This hors d’oeuvre will be waiting for us here and that one will be waiting for us there, etc.”  In direct contrast, he also spoke of some groups (every bit as popular) that refused any and all efforts to be pampered.  Clearly, one group came to “be served,” and the other came to “serve.”   How many famous preachers, televangelists, and the like have fallen into the same prideful trap, I wonder?  Satan is clearly as busy as ever.  It doesn’t matter how “popular” folks are or how many CD’s they sell, the only ones doing the will of the Father will be those who are clearly and accurately reflecting the light of Christ.

“Suppose one of you had a servant plowing or looking after the sheep.  Would he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, ‘Come along now and sit down to eat’?  Would he not rather say, ‘Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink’?  Would he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do?  So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants: we have only done our duty.'”  (Jesus of Nazareth)  Luke 17:7-10
