Have you ever seen somebody who flashes their money around before they put it in the offering plate or who starts working harder when they know the boss is looking? Maybe you know someone who likes to brag about the financial support they provide here or there or makes sure they only give to folks who’ll give them a receipt or a generous tax deduction. If you’ve seen something like this, then you’ve seen something less than honorable. Brothers and sisters, if you’ve decided in your heart to give something, then give what you can, joyfully, and without wanting anything in return–and above all else, keep it between you and the Lord!
“Be careful not to do your ‘acts of righteousness’ before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven… But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” Matthew 6:1-4
