Sin, Pride and a Beheading

I recently ran across the saddening account of John the Baptist’s beheading. For some reason I saw something new today. Usually I focus on the terror John must have felt as he was dragged out of the dungeon and slain. Sometimes my thoughts turn toward the pain Jesus and others must have felt at hearing the news of John’s demise. Today…. today I realized that Harod’s sin caused John’s death. Harod knew John was a man of God, but slew him at the request of Herodias’ daughter because of his own pride! (Mark 6:14-29).

“The king was very sorry for what he had said. But he did not want to break the promise he had made in front of his guests. At once he ordered a guard to cut off John’s head there in prison.” Mark 6:26
