Quite often I’ll be looking around a room full of Christians and think I’m the most messed up one in this room. At other times, the pride in me can get me to thinking I’m somehow closer to God than a similar group of people. Probably anyone with a healthy view of who they really are has thought something similar. I don’t believe that God gives us His Spirit to inflate our egos, nor does His Spirit make us think too lowly of ourselves. True humility commands that we think rightly and soberly judge ourselves, examining all our motives in the Light of God’s Word. The reality is that all of us are a jumble of nerves, past hurts, hateful thoughts and self-promoting sins. If you could only see the real me, you’d know for certain I’d be worthless without Jesus in my life! The same is no-doubt true of you.
Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.” Romans 12:3
