That Name!

When you hear that name, what do you think? What feeling runs through your head (or your heart) when someone speaks the name the Bible calls “the name above all names.” When I was a kid, that name was nothing more than a curse word–something I would hear before I got slapped, or right after my step father would see a mess my brother, sisters and I made. To some, the name of Jesus Christ is nothing more than the figurehead of a religion–a religion just like all other religions; on par with the rest but not above them. To others, the name of Jesus Christ is something to carve (or to spray paint) on public property–a symbol, among all other symbols–on par with the rest… To others, the name of Jesus Christ is the essence of the message of the Cross. It’s the only name in all eternity we can call on for salvation–the name above all names, the only begotten Son of God.

“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:18

So, the next time you hear someone misusing the name of the One who gave His live on that Cross, don’t curse them… they’re already cursed! Pray for them; they’re in the same position you used to be before you undeservingly received the grace of Almighty God.

In Christ,

Students?

For years now I’ve been learning a little more about Jesus each and every day. I suppose I’ve learned more than the average person, but surely I’ll not understand all of His teachings while I’m in th
