“Their Own Means?”

“… Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with him, and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out; Joanna the wife of Cuza, the manager of Herod’s household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means.” Luke 8:1-3
I marvel at this verse because it seems so ridiculous that people could actually help the work of Jesus with something as simple as money. Jesus didn’t NEED anything from sinners. In fact, He was here to give. When they didn’t have food, drink, or money, He was always able to perform a miracle and have it work into His plans all the more. But for some reason known only to God Himself, He allows us to strive along with Him in His work, suffering in some ways and joyful in others. No doubt our Creator knows that without the struggle, we would never be all He wants us to be in this life.
