Truth or Lie? The Fall of Man

“Now the serpent was more crafty…. ‘You will not surely die,’ the serpent said to the woman. ‘For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Well, there it is! That’s the big lie Satan told Eve. Of course, it’s been translated from the original Hebrew, but it’s still powerful. In fact, it’s so powerful it’s still working today. Here’s the lie broken into two parts. See if it sounds like anything you’ve heard lately…

1. “You will not surely die…” — There are no consequences to sin. Just do as you please because God (or those pesky Christians) are all liars. IF there is a God, he would never send us to hell. God is love, how could he do that? Besides, you’ve treated other people as fairly as you could!

2. “…your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” — We can, in effect, be our own gods. What really matters is individuality. Besides, who’s to say what’s right and what’s wrong. Times change you know. What used to be “evil” is now acceptable. What’s right for ME is the only thing that matters.

The Truth

“There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.” Romans 3:10-12

“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Jesus of Nazareth (John 14:6b)
