From time-to-time I’ve had people tell me the Lord spoke to them about this or that, and I usually have no reason to doubt their profession. I believe the Lord has also spoken to me on several occasions. The problem arises when people claim the Holy Spirit has spoken to them, but the words He spoke are in direct contradiction to the Holy Bible. Here’s a little history… Although the word “Trinity” does not appear in the Bible, the doctrinal position God is ever-present as three-in-one has been solidly anchored in Christian theology since the fourth century A.D. The doctrine also affirms that each member of the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, have an identity of their own but, being one, are always in complete agreement. Here’s my point: no matter which “hat” God is wearing, the Father, Son, or Holy Spirit, His character does not change. If you believe God is speaking to you, try to find confirmation in His perfect Word. If you find something to the contrary, you can be sure of this: the words you heard were not of God. He will NEVER contradict Himself! If His Word confirms your belief, then carry on as directed!
“I the LORD do not change. So you, O descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.” Malachi 3:6
